I am so excited to act as the Poet Laureate for the 2024-2025 school year! I started writing when I was as young as I can remember. The funny thing is that I was always trying to relate my writing to something bigger. As I grew older, I started thinking more critically about what I wanted to write about; this question was hard for me to answer because I couldn’t always clearly put into words what I was feeling and wanted to say. Around this time, my father, who had just written his 1,000th poem, taught me the beauty of poetry. I believe that there isn’t just one thing that magically makes poetry appeal to everyone, however this is what worked for me: you don’t have to perfectly iterate your feelings, you don’t even have to know them yourself. The amazing thing about poetry, to me, is that it is up for interpretation, whether you want it to be or not. Every poem means something different to every reader, and that's why I love it.
